Every year, Special Olympics Edmonton accepts nominations to recognize deserving individuals within our community. We give out awards based on the 5 categories below.

Here is a guideline of some attributes that could be considered when nominating an award winner. This is not a comprehensive list!
Athlete of the Year
-Successes in sport (personal bests, achieving goals, competitions, games, etc.)
-Participation in programs (sportsmanship, leadership, mentorship etc.)
-Personal growth and development
-Impact and participation in programs and other SOE events
Coach of the Year
-Development of program (program planning, coach development, competitions etc)
-Mentorship of coaches and athletes
-Positive development of athlete and coach goals
-Impact and participation in programs and other SOE events
Team of the Year
– Team successes in sport (personal bests, achieving goals, competitions, games etc)
– Team growth and development
– Team leadership within the community at large
Volunteer of the Year
– Impact and participation in programs and other SOE events
– Exemplifies the spirit, philosophy and goals of Special Olympics
– Ambassador of Special Olympics athletes and organizational values
